“Mom, you make the best cookies EVER!” Ahhh, sweet music to my ears, lol. I don’t confess to be a great chef, but I do love to bake!
And there’s nothing like a warm chocolate chip cookie straight out of the oven! However you like to eat them – chewy, gooey, crunchy – or my kids favorite way – “warm, with milk,” they are simply the best. Don’t eat them from a bag ever again. Make these! Sometimes I keep extra cookie dough in the fridge to bake at a later time, so they’ll be fresh – and the house will smell great too!
My mom taught me how to bake from early on in life and I’m so glad she did. I’m trying to follow that example with our 3 kids. This was always one of my favorite things to bake through the years. Many people have asked for the recipe over time so, I’ll share here!
The secret is just a twist in the Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip cookie recipe that makes them taste so much better and bake a little fuller, not so flat. Instead of all butter, as called for in the recipe, add part shortening along with the butter – here’s the recipe:
Secret to the Best Original Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 stick butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 large eggs
1 12oz. package of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in bowl and set aside. Add sugars to softened butter & shortening and cream together. Add vanilla and eggs and mix together. Add flour mixture gradually. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded teaspoons on baking sheet and bake at 375 for 10-11 minutes or until done.
They will not last long! Enjoy!
Yum ~ sounds good! I love to bake as well! My mom never baked, so I always wanted to bake with my kids and pass on my own tradition. I have always used the Butter Flavored Crisco recipe for cookies because the Nestle cookies were always flat. Thanks for the tip about adding the shortening. My secret ingredient for all of my cookies is to add some cinnamon. I usually add about a tsp. Thanks again for sharing!
So glad you shared this Mandi! I’m going to try it with the cinnamon. I’ve used the butter flavored crisco sticks too or regular sticks if I’m using real butter in it – but for the same reason you found as well. If you use all butter, they’re flat! thanks for sharing!
