Next week at this time, kids will officially be back in school! And whether that makes you want to cry or sing the hallelujah chorus, one truth remains the same.
I’m reminded of it constantly as the years tick by, as I watch our three who hold my heart, growing up bit by bit, learning new things, gaining more independence, loving life.
I think of it when I hold a hand that still seems so small, or when I pick up a shoe that seems too big.
It tugs at me when I watch them sleeping, or when I think about how my oldest will be driving in just a few years.
It’s the truth that’s been there with me since the day they were born and will remain even till after they say goodbye and leave for college.
It lingers in my mind, through the tough moments of mommy-hood, and through the days filled with so much laughter and joy, you just think, “I never, ever want to forget this…”
The truth for all of us is simply this, our kids are not “our” kids.
They belong to God. He created them, He loves them more than we could ever dream possible, He has great plans and purpose for each of their lives.
Sometimes we want to hold on tightly to what we love the most in this world. Isn’t that normal? Especially for us moms?
But I’m finding that the sooner we begin to grasp this truth – that they are His – the more we are free to hold them up – to Him. Every day. With open hands. Up to an amazing God. We can’t be everywhere, at every moment, in every place. But He can. He sees. He knows. And we can trust that He is with them…always.
Here’s to a great year ahead!
